The espresso martini is a gorgeous specimen. I’ve tried many recipes over the years (as shown by the confusing scribbles in my cocktail book below), but none of them were quite right. I even got one directly from a great bartender’s mouth, but I couldn’t replicate it at home.

It is likely that all of these failings were due to not having my own espresso machine. Yes, this recipe requires you to make good quality espresso (or obtain by other methods), but it is best if very strong and very hot. I have not tested this with cold brew.
My espresso method is this: Breville Bambino Plus + my separate Baratza grinder set at 20. ~16g beans. Press 1 shot. Press 1 shot again. I don’t know if this is incorrect, but for some reason, pressing 2 shots makes me think it won’t be strong enough. Idk! It works.

Ingredients:
makes 1
1 oz vodka
.5 oz dark rum
1 oz very strong, very hot espresso
optional: pinch of salt
optional: espresso beans, for garnish
Steps:
Add all ingredients to a shaker with lots of ice. Shake vigorously for optimal frothiness. Strain and pour into cocktail glass. Garnish with optional espresso beans. Enjoy!
